Vive le France! Response to Paris Tragedy

Written November 15, 2015

I Love France! I stand with you! To me, France has always been representative of so, SO many things I love, we ALL love! First of all, I love France for its friendship and loyalty when the times are most significant. Who came with Lafayette at the helm, helping save the day for our Independence? Who paid for and sent Frederic Auguste Bartholdi’s Statue of Liberty in pre-assembled, crated,¬†copper puzzle pieces, as a present for our country’s 100 year anniversary of declared independence across the HUGE Atlantic Ocean? Who has been our ally in war, time and time again? Who paints so many masterpieces, designs the stylish and mod look of clothes, has crafted the most elaborate of furniture pieces, palaces and gardens, creates the most sumptuous tasting dishes, ferments and corks velvety, robust, fragrant wines, composed and invented the dainty minuet, and has truly, the most alluring and sensual of languages to hear and speak? Why, France, of course! To me, France is a festival of beauty—capturing our hearts, our dreams, our souls! France is the essence of loving Human Life, which is why Friday’s tragedy hits us all so hard. France is not just a country, but a state of mind. They fought long and hard for the right of the bourgeoisie–and don’t we all celebrate Bastille Day every July 14th? If England is our cousin, then I say France is our brother! Vive la France….Peace to Paris…listen to her musical voices…Debussy, Ravel, Berlioz, Saint-Saens, Poulenc, Dukas, and finally, Claude-Joseph Rouget de Lisle!!!
